Birth of a Friend
by Tigris Powers
Something changed today
I stopped making demands
And I decided to play
I sat down on the floor
At his height
I could suddenly see him
In a different light
He felt more secure
For it was his realm
Life down here is simpler
Than all that goes on up there
He smiled and I smiled too
We laughed together
As friends, they will do
He handed me my drink
And sat down beside me, on the floor
We gazed out the window
A view we have seen so often before
Today, it was different
I can’t quite articulate how
But the moment will stay
Just as it was, forever now
We let go of the hierarchy
The egoic games of “yes” and “no”
Wow…
My child, as a friend, he will do
For he is a better friend than
Ever I’ve had the pleasure
To unexpectedly bump into
